Swim Across Lake Tahoe – One Woman’s Journey Begins in an Endless Pool

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2020

By Laura Varnon, Marketing Coordinator

Haydee Acebo has big dreams, and she’s training to get there one mile of swim training at a time, in her Endless Pools Swim Spa.

Haydee, a Reno resident, is training to be the first Latina to swim solo across Lake Tahoe this coming summer, and she will be dedicating each mile of her swim to a different social cause.

She trains daily in the Endless Pools X200 that she bought from The Spa and Sauna Company in 2016. You can find her 6 days a week, currently swimming 4 miles per day.

“There’s no way I could do [this] without my Endless Pool,” said Haydee, now 40.

Haydee has already completed many long and challenging swims, including a swim from Alcatraz Island to San Francisco, four swims across Donner Lake, and two relays spanning the width of Lake Tahoe.

How Haydee Began Swimming

Haydee, originally from Ecuador, has been swimming since her high school days, when participating in a school sport was a requirement.

She says she wasn’t the strongest swimmer on her high school team, or even her college swim team, but began working with coaches to improve her skills. Over time, swimming became a big part of Haydee’s life. Learning that she personally can overcome obstacles has inspired her to encourage members of the Latin community to feel that same empowerment.

“As long as I can train, I can do so many things,” said Haydee, a former bilingual television reporter and producer, who now works in talent acquisition.

She wants to spread messages of hope to those in the Latin community and the Reno-Tahoe community.

“I see a lot of obstacles within my group. The fact that I have a swim spa, even though it’s the most basic…it’s a privilege,” Haydee said.

About the Endless Pools X200

An Endless Pools X200 allows for year-round swim training in your own backyard. But an X200 can also be used for more than that. It’s the perfect place to train, exercise, relax play and entertain, and of course enjoy the hydrotherapy of a hot tub too.

Coming in at just 12 feet long, it’s compact enough for most backyards, while still offering benefits of larger swim spas from Endless Pools.

“Endless Pools Swim Spas are great for training, relaxation, and family time,” said Spa and Sauna Company owner Scott Clark. “It offers the best of both worlds – a hot tub and a swim spa combined.”

21 miles, 21 causes, 2021

The big event is set for August 7, 2021 beginning at 9 p.m. And this isn’t just a personal challenge for Haydee. She will be dedicating each mile of her swim to 21 different social causes.

Between now and then, there is much to do, including more training and finding her causes.

While Haydee, who lives with her husband and two children, has some causes that are close to her heart, she will be asking her social media following for suggestions. And for those who respond, they will be enrolled in a giveaway.

Some of the causes closest to her heart are:

  • Mental health
  • Equality
  • Child abuse prevention
  • Cancer Awareness and Cures

Once her causes are identified, she will be seeking sponsorship. The Spa and Sauna Company has already decided to be one of Haydee’s sponsors.

Haydee’s ultimate goal is to create resources for people, related to each of the causes that get selected.

You can find out more about Haydee at @haydeeadventurer on Instagram or Facebook.

What will Happen on Race Day

It’s a big adventure and Haydee can’t do it on her own.

“I need other people’s support,” she said.

She isn’t swimming in a race. It will just be Haydee and the lake.

Supporting her, between now and the day of the big swim, are her family and friends, The Spa and Sauna Company, her social media following, a swim coach, and many swimming friends.

On the day of the race, a boat captain, crew chief, and two kayakers will be alongside her in one boat. Her husband, a doctor and others will be in a second boat on the day of her swim.

“We are so impressed that Haydee will be working toward this goal in the Endless Pools X200 that she purchased from The Spa and Sauna Company,” Clark said.

Good luck, Haydee!

Hot Tubs and Wellness – Take our Wellness Challenge and Be a Lifelong Hot Tubber

Thursday, June 25th, 2020

By Laura Varnon, Marketing Coordinator

Have you taken our 30 Soaks in 30 Days Wellness Challenge? We challenge all new hot tubbers to use their hot tub every day. The benefits to your family and your wellness from daily usage of a hot tub can be simply life changing.

After your hot tub is delivered, you should receive a few emails from us, explaining how to participate in our Wellness Challenge. It’s easy, just use your hot tub daily, track it and get wellness benefits and prizes!

All the information, including a printable calendar chart for tracking can be found here. People who complete the challenge, can return it online here, or to their local showroom, for their prizes.

Habit of Hot Tubbing

We, at The Spa and Sauna Company family of stores, believe that if you have a hot tub, you should be using it. If you use your hot tub frequently when you first acquire it, you are more likely to stick with the habit as long as you own your hot tub and get the maximum health and wellness benefits, as well.

How Using A Hot Tub Changes Your Life

Here are some of the amazing testimonials we’ve received about how hot tubbing has changed the lives of our Wellness Challenge Participants:

Soaking has helped with our recovery from weightlifting and cycling,” Jamie C. of Reno, Wellness Challenge Participant.

“[We} have noticed our sleep time has improved with the addition of the spa; we are more relaxed and tranquil,” Michael B. of Minden, Wellness Challenge Participant.

“We love that it’s our special together time at the end of the evening. We turn off the tv, gather our towels and head outside. We enjoy looking at the stars and enjoying the dark peacefulness. We have had a hot tub in each home of our 42 years of marriage, Peggy O. of Reno, Wellness Challenge Participant.

“My husband Jim has had back pain every day for the last 15-20 years… Not any more!!” said Gina M. of Sparks, Spa and Sauna Daily Soaker.

“The whole family loves it for different reasons. Kids love to splash and play, husband loves to relax and I love the hydrotherapy,” said Rebecca B. of Reno, Spa and Sauna Daily Soaker.

We Believe Hot Tubs are Wellness Tools

The Spa and Sauna Company was awarded the Watkins Wellness Award at the January Dealer Conference, held in Florida, for our Wellness Challenge.

We truly embrace the Wellness aspects that hot tubs bring to people’s lives.

We recommend you can leave your devices in the house (if they get in the water, they will break), get in the hot tub and use that time to have meaningful conversations with your family members. We believe connecting with your family and loved ones is an important part of wellness.

Wellness Benefits of Hot Tubbing

The benefits of soaking in hot water include:

Improved sleep
Stress relief
Pain relief
Family time
Time away from electronics
Meaningful conversations
And more.

Some Wellness Challenge participants have found that hot tubbing means they no longer need a massage therapist, or back pain medication, and that they can enjoy hobbies, like gardening, again.

Other people notice improvements in their overall health and sleep patterns. Click here to read about Mark B. of Sparks, who no longer needs to visit a chiropractor, now that he uses his hot tub daily.

Most say they now use their hot tub every day for the wellness benefits.

Challenge participants, who return their calendar, may be featured on our website and social media. We also sent a few follow-up emails that encourage them to continue using their hot tub after they complete the challenge. Happy Hot Tubbing.

Spa and Sauna Team Member’s Wellness Challenge

Thursday, March 21st, 2019

By Laura Varnon, Marketing Coordinator

Zach Wylie, a sales consultant here at The Spa and Sauna Company, recently invested in a Sauna for his home. He decided to challenge himself to participate in a personal wellness challenge to encourage himself to use his new Sauna daily.

The personal challenge, which we have dubbed the 30 Sweats in 30 Days Personal Challenge, is similar to the 30 Soaks in 30 Days Personal Challenge we currently encourage our new Hot Tub owners to participate in.

All new Hot Tub owners in the Reno/Sparks area get a package in the mail, including a Calendar, Flier and Stickers to track hot tub usage, shortly after their hot tub is delivered. We at The Spa and Sauna Company believe that if you have a hot tub or sauna, you should be using it. If you use your hot tub or sauna frequently when you first acquire it, you are more likely to stick with the habit as long as you own your hot tub or sauna.

About Zach’s Sauna

Zach’s sauna is a Finnleo Sauna, which is available at The Spa and Sauna Company’s Reno and Sparks locations. He selected a Finnleo HM 44, which is an indoor traditional sauna, 4 feet by 4 feet. This model works with a standard 110V outlet, so no special electrical hookup was required.

The Spa and Sauna Company carries InfraRed and Traditional Saunas and can provide Custom or Pre-Fabricated Saunas. Saunas start at about $1,999.

“The health benefits of this are worth the investment,” Zach said.

About Zach’s Personal Challenge

During the Personal Challenge, Zach decided to increase the temperature and duration of his Sauna sessions. He currently likes to spend about 21 minutes in the sauna and keeps his sauna set in the low 170-degree range.

He decided on those temperatures and durations based on some Sauna studies he has read and personal preference.

After completing the Challenge, he has decided he prefers to use his sauna in the morning. Using a built-in timer, he can plan for his sessions daily.

“Because it is invigorating, it’s a great way to start the day,” Zach said.

Health Benefits

Health benefits Zach has already experienced include relaxation, deeper sleep, and improved range of motion after a shoulder injury.

Wellness Challenge Delivers Health Benefits

Friday, August 17th, 2018

By Laura Varnon, Marketing Coordinator

Mark B. of Sparks recently completed The Spa and Sauna Company’s 30 Soaks in 30 Days Personal Challenge. He completed more than 20 soaks in 30 days.

He bought his Hot Spring hot tub, a TX model, in April, after owning an inflatable hot tub that he had to program the day before he wanted to use it, so it could reach ideal temperature.

“It’s a lot nicer to be able to lift the cover and get in,” said Mark, of his new spa, which he purchased from The Spa and Sauna Shop in Sparks.

Mark used his hot tub through the hot summer months by typically getting in it late in the evening for star gazing and quality time with his wife.  He also enjoys soaking by himself and using that time to meditate.

Although Mark experienced back pain prior to owning his hot tub, he no longer needs to visit the chiropractor for relief. He attributes that to the time spent in his hot tub.

He also noticed changes in how he is sleeping. Now, after consistent hot tub use, Mark easily gets a full night’s sleep.

“It was nice soaking, even when the weather was not ideal. I always feel better and relaxed when I soak,” Mark wrote on his 30 Soaks in 30 Days Personal Challenge Form.
